There is an old saying in our culture that the spirits hear those who always talk about their badluck.
Spirits, being lazy, are attracted and cause all sorts of problems.
So now and again, stand up in the wind and shout... hey spirits... I am strong... Come check me out. Spirits being literal and lazy will go away.
On the other hand, if the object of cries of pain is to attract a soul person, then one might show up. But like I said, I would not trust that persons guardian spirit which has two sides you know and both are lazy.
